Is there no way to do this without the console? You can't remove The Runefull axe it counts as a quest item I treid to put it in a weapon rack ,chest ,body ,ash pile ,even dropping it but the game won't let you so just get the masque its cooler and the axe looks like just a normal steel axe with markings hence RUNE — user Leader Leader Please don't leave link only answers.

Question feed. The axe just isn't that great of a weapon, even for two-handed specialists, and if you've acquired the ability to temper it, you almost certainly already own more than one weapon that's better than an improved version of the axe. The masque, on the other hand, improves your magic regen a bit, gives you a boost to your speech skill and boosts your barter skill even beyond that, and while it's not that great as a piece of heavy armor, it does provide some protection if you're attacked unexpectedly while wearing it and forget that you don't have your usual helmet equipped.
Even if you're just completing the Daedric Lords' quests because you're hunting the Oblivion Walker achievement, the masque will count towards it, while the axe won't. That suggests to me that even the people working on the game thought the masque was the "correct" choice. As an addendum to what I wrote above about keeping Barbas as a follower, if I remember all of this correctly, you can retrieve the axe from Rimerock Burrow and never return it to the shrine, and Barbas will still continue to follow you unless you order him to do otherwise.
You don't even have to kill Sebastian Lort to get the axe if you're sneaky about it, as encountering and defeating Lort are not among your objectives for the quest. If you intend to keep Barbas, though, I wouldn't recommend doing that.
The reason why is that if you load up a saved game with Barbas following you later on, and it's completely slipped your mind where Clavicus Vile's shrine is located, you might go back to Haemar's Shame for some other reason, and if you're still toting around that axe because it's just so darned cool to you that you sought it out in the first place, getting too close to the shrine will trigger the event where Barbas runs up to it and Clavicus Vile forces you to choose whether to kill him or spare him.
In either case, say goodbye to Barbas unless you load a previous save. Overall, if you want Barbas to stick with you indefinitely, it's just safer to leave the axe where it spawns, even if you end up visiting Rimerock Burrow and beating down Lort.
The rueful axe is the slowest weapon in the game. On top of that, the axe does not count toward the "Oblivion Walker" achievement. Explore Wikis Community Central. Register Don't have an account? He can be persuaded to give half the payment for the task up front.
